If you live near Sandy Springs or have ever asked me for a dinner recommendation while visiting the area, Rumi's Kitchen is a name I keep coming back to. This Persian restaurant at 6112 Roswell Road NE has set the city standard for Persian food since it opened in Sandy Springs in 2006, according to The Infatuation. It is the kind of place that makes a neighborhood feel like home.

A Longtime Sandy Springs Favorite

Chef and owner Ali Mesghali, who grew up in Esfahan, Iran, opened Rumi's Kitchen in 2006. It started down the street from its current home before moving to 6112 Roswell Road in 2012, according to the restaurant's website. For nearly two decades, diners have come for Persian classics like stewed eggplant, kebab platters, lamb shank, and Cornish game hen.

A Fresh New Look

The Sandy Springs flagship recently reopened after a roughly $3.5 million renovation designed by Johnson Studio at Cooper Carry, according to Atlanta Magazine. The reimagined space added a glassed-in patio, a creative cocktail program, and new desserts, giving the longtime favorite a polished, modern feel. Diners still rate it about 4.5 stars on average on Google Reviews.

What to Order

For first-timers, the kebab platters are a great introduction, and the stewed eggplant is a house classic worth ordering every time. The lamb shank and Cornish game hen are favorites too. Weekend brunch adds za'atar biscuits and gravy, per Atlanta Magazine's coverage of the reopening. Go with a few people so you can share several plates.

I talk about places like Rumi's Kitchen: a warm, well-established restaurant with food worth driving for, where the street feels like a neighborhood.
